Clinical Training in Psychotherapy
The Clinical Training in Psychotherapy has been a key part of the region’s therapeutic community since it was first established in 1990. Its purpose is to provide a high-quality learning experience through which graduates develop into competent, ethical and reflective practitioners of psychotherapy. To support this mission, the Training Committee promotes an active, open-minded and well-informed culture of clinical practice across the wider West Midlands, including an annual programme of public lectures.
Our Training Pathways
The Clinical Training in Psychotherapy offers three core routes:
-
Four-Year Analytical Psychotherapy Training
A clinical qualifying programme leading to BPC registration and Professional Membership within the psychotherapy community. -
Introduction to Analytical Psychotherapy Course
Ideal for individuals who want to explore analytical psychotherapy principles without committing to a full qualifying training at this stage. -
Two-Year Infant Observation Training
A structured programme designed to deepen understanding of early development through close observational study.

Our Training Philosophy
Our training recognises that effective psychotherapy relies not only on strong theoretical and clinical understanding, but also on the practitioner’s authenticity, self-knowledge and creative engagement with the analytic process. We support trainees in developing personal authority and confidence, enabling them to work effectively across a range of approaches within modern clinical psychotherapy.
This reflects Jung’s core philosophy: nurturing autonomous individuals who contribute to a cultural tradition rather than conform to a rigid orthodoxy. While the programme is rooted in the theories of C.G. Jung and expanded by post-Jungian developments, it also draws on broader psychoanalytic and object-relations frameworks. Each subject is taught by specialists in the relevant field, ensuring a rich and diverse analytic learning experience.
Public lectures
Our lectures are open to the public as well as our students and graduates. If you would like to receive details of future events by email please sign up here >>
